Camp Snap’s Videocamera is a Vintage Love Letter to 8MM

We have a vintage 8mm camera that we got an auction years back, and it sits on our shelf for pure nostalgia. Guests love to hold it, and feel the tactile nature of the switches, dials, and heft.

Now that form factor has been updated for the 21st century, with some keen limitations.

Camp Snap’s second product is a full-send throwback of the handheld 8mm cameras of the 50s, 60s and 70s.

With a true vintage style, the CS-8 Digital Video Camera wants you to be in the moment, and have purposely made the device screen-free.

Indeed, the camera doesn’t allow for instant playback, forcing you to transfer the footage to a laptop or phone for playback afterward.

Dials that would have traditionally be used for exposure are now used for battery level, digital filters, and an SD card meter, all in a throwback design that feels decidedly old school.

“Introducing the CS-8, a digital video camera inspired by the iconic Super 8—reimagined for today.

With no playback screen and no instant previews, the CS-8 brings back the magic of filmmaking where you stay in the moment and experience the surprise later.”

A satisfying trigger starts the recording, and a classic lanyard is available for wrist support.

The camera’s texture is on-point from cameras from 70 years ago, and the build quality seems properly high.

Using USB-c, the CS-8 Digital Video Camera has thoroughly modern bones, but is made in a way that hearkens back to a simpler era. Fully reusable and rechargeable, we can imagine this being a classic for years to come.
